How to change the status of a client’s account
This article explains how to change the status of a client’s FreeAgent account on your Practice Dashboard.
Select the ‘My Clients’ tab and select the relevant client’s name from the list.
You can change the client’s status to ‘Active’ or Closed’.
Changing a client’s status to ‘Active’
If you didn’t change the client’s status to ‘Active’ when adding them to your Practice Dashboard and their status is currently ‘Inactive’, select ‘Activate client’ in the top-right.
Whilst the client’s status is ‘Inactive’, the account will have read-only status, meaning the client will not be able to log in to the account and neither you nor your clients will be able to upload transactions.
Select ‘Yes, I wish to activate this client’ in the pop-up window to complete the process.
Please note that once a client’s account status changes to 'Active', they will immediately become billable, and your practice will incur charges unless the client has a free account provided by NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank or Mettle.
Changing a client’s account status to ‘Active’ will remove the read-only status and will make the account available to both you and your client.
Changing a client’s status to ‘Closed’
Select 'More' and choose ‘Close client’s account’ from the drop-down menu. Find out more about how to close a client’s account.
Please note that once you’ve done this, you won’t be able to change the account status back to ‘Active’ and reopen the account. Therefore, make sure that you’ve completed all the required tasks in the account and exported any data that you might need before closing the client's account.
Once a client’s account has been closed, account managers will have read-only access to the account but the client won’t be able to access the account at all.
