How to switch to a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle-funded FreeAgent account

If you have a business banking current account with either NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle, you have the option to use FreeAgent for free by transferring to a NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Ulster Bank NI/Mettle-funded account. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions on this topic. 

How can I switch?

If you see a message in your FreeAgent account prompting you to make the switch, simply select ‘Find out more’ and follow the simple on-screen instructions.

If you don’t see this message, navigate to the 'Radar' menu at the top right of the screen (it’s the bell icon), then select ‘You’re eligible for a free subscription!’ from the list - you may need to scroll to find this option. From there, follow the same straightforward process to make the switch to a NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Ulster Bank NI/Mettle-funded account. 

If you’re a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle business banking current account holder and you can’t see the ‘You’re eligible for a free subscription!' insight, please email support@freeagent.com and our support team will help you get started with the switching process. 

What will change if I make the switch?

If you decide to make the switch to a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle-funded account, your FreeAgent subscription will be free of charge subject to you retaining your business banking current account. 

If you’re a sole trader or in a partnership, you’ll also have the option of receiving tailored insights that include links to relevant products from trusted partners, right inside FreeAgent. These insights will always come from your data and will be personalised to your business. 

If you’re a limited company director or a partner in a limited liability partnership and you switch to a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle-funded FreeAgent account, you will be agreeing to receive these tailored insights in FreeAgent and you won’t be able to opt out of them.

If I switch will I keep my FreeAgent account data?

Yes. Everything will be the same in your account and you’ll have access to the same great features and help from our superstar support team! 

I pay for FreeAgent on a monthly basis. What will happen if I choose to switch?

When you confirm your decision to switch, your future monthly payments will be cancelled automatically.

I pay for FreeAgent annually. What will happen if I choose to switch?

You’ll receive a refund for the unused portion of your annual subscription. FreeAgent will calculate the refund amount when you go through the switching process and will show this to you before you confirm your decision to switch.

Once you’ve made the switch to a NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Ulster Bank NI/Mettle-funded account, your refund should be processed within 5-10 days. Where possible, we will pay the refund to your original payment card. A full VAT credit note will be available in the ‘Billing’ area of your FreeAgent account.

If I switch to a NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Ulster Bank NI/Mettle-funded account but change my mind later on, can I switch back?

I have a business banking current account with NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Ulster Bank NI/Mettle and use FreeAgent through my accountant - does this information apply to me?

If you use FreeAgent through an accountant then you can’t take any direct action to switch to a NatWest,  Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle-funded account. However, your accountant will be happy to talk to you about whether switching to NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI or Mettle funding is right for you. 

I have a NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland/Mettle personal bank account. Am I eligible for a free FreeAgent account?

NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank NI and Mettle provide FreeAgent subscriptions to customers who have business banking current accounts. Unfortunately, the offer is not currently available to personal bank account holders.
