Creating staged invoices
This article explains how to create staged invoices in FreeAgent.
There are two ways you can create staged invoices. You can either raise separate estimates and/or invoices, or you can have separate line items on your estimate and/or invoice.
Option 1: raise separate estimates and/or invoices
The first option is to create separate estimates and/or invoices for each stage of the contract, or piece of work. Each estimate and/or invoice should be dated to reflect the terms agreed with the customer.
The estimates can all be linked to an overall project in the customer's name. You can convert an estimate to an invoice when at the required stage of the contract.
When the customer pays you, you can explain the transactions to the invoices as normal.
Option 2: create separate line items on the estimate and/or invoice
Alternatively, you can add separate line items to your estimate and/or invoice with the appropriate information for separate stages of work.
Each time you receive money, you can allocate that receipt to the invoice, which will reduce how much of that invoice remains to be paid each time.
