Update your login or recovery email address

This article explains how to update your primary or recovery email address in FreeAgent.

Your primary email address is the email address that you use to log in to FreeAgent.

If you enable the new login check, you can add a recovery email address to recover your account if you lose access to your primary email address.

Please note that you’ll need full (level 8) access to your FreeAgent account to be able to update your login or recovery email address.

Updating your login or recovery email address

Navigate to the drop-down menu under your business name and select ‘Settings’.

Select ‘Sign-in and Security’ under the ‘Account Security’ section.

Update your primary email address

To update your primary email address that you use to log in to FreeAgent, select ‘Update’ next to the email listed as ‘Login / Email’.

Enter the new email address you want to use to log in to FreeAgent in the ‘New email address’ field and select ‘Send verification email’ to send a verification code to the new primary email address.

Enter the verification code that was sent to your new primary email address in the ‘Verification code’ field and select ‘Verify code’ to proceed. The code will only be valid for 20 minutes.

If you didn’t receive the code or it has expired, select ‘request a new code’ to have a new code sent to the new primary email address.

Once verified, the new login email will show in the ‘Login / Email’ field on the Sign-in and Security page.

Update or delete recovery email address

If you’ve enabled a new login check and added a recovery email email address, you can either update or delete the recovery email address.

To update your recovery email address, select ‘Update’ next to the email listed as ‘Recovery email’.

Enter the new email address you’d like to use for your recovery email in the ‘New email address’ field and select ‘Send verification email’ to send a verification code to the new recovery email address.

Enter the verification code that was sent to your new recovery email address in the ‘Verification code’ field and select ‘Verify code’ to proceed. The code will only be valid for 20 minutes.

If you didn’t receive the code or it has expired, select ‘request a new code’ to have to code resent to the new recovery email address.

Once verified, the new recovery email will show in the ‘Recovery email’ field on the Sign-in and Security page.

Deleting your recovery email address

To delete your recovery email address, select ‘Delete’ next to the email listed as ‘Recovery email’.

Select ‘Yes, remove recovery email’ in the pop-up window to complete the process.

Please note that we highly recommend adding a recovery email address to avoid being locked out of your account if you lose access to your primary email for any reason.
