A guide to the Spending Categories report

This article explains how to access the Spending Categories report in FreeAgent which shows where you're spending your money and includes your categorised bills, expenses and bank transactions.

Accessing the report

Navigate to the ‘Accounting’ tab at the top of the screen and select ‘Reports’ from the drop-down menu.

Select ‘Spending Categories’ in the 'Breakdown' section.

This will display your Spending Categories report. If your business is registered for VAT, the figures shown on the report will be exclusive of VAT.

Viewing the report

You can view this report in two different ways by selecting the drop-down menu.

Monthly - This breaks down the totals for each individual month over the selected accounting year.

Yearly - This view shows your total annual spending by category, for up to three accounting years.

Sort by column

You can also select the top row of any column to sort that column in an ascending or descending order, depending on whether the arrow is pointing up (ascending) or down (descending).

Here we can see that the category we spent most of our money on in August 2020 was 'Travel'.

Export your report

To export your Spending Categories report, select 'Export report' in the top-right and select 'CSV' to download the selected report as a .CSV file. Once downloaded, the file can be viewed and manipulated in your chosen spreadsheet software.
