You’ll see a search bar above your list of transactions. You can search across all of your transactions for terms like the description, the category (e.g. travel) or the specific amount.

Working with filters

There are two groups of filters you can apply to your search. The first one lets you filter by the type of transaction and the second lets you filter by date.

The term you are searching for will be used in combination with any active filters. For example, in the image below, if you select 'All Transactions' and 'Accounting Year 2021/22' then the search will only look across the transactions in the 'Accounting Year of 2021/22'. As you add new filters, the search will update with new results.

Clear search results

The term you are searching for will continue to apply until you clear that search. To clear and reset the results, select the 'Clear search results' option, located below the ‘Search’ button.

Just use search to find a set of transactions, then select the boxes for the transactions and use the 'Explain transactions' box to the right to bulk explain. This is particularly useful if you are looking to update the category of a group of explanations. You can also use 'SHIFT+Click' to bulk select a group of transactions.

More about the different ways you can search

There are a number of different ways that you can use search:

Description

Search for a word in the description of the transaction explanation. The matched term will be highlighted in the results.

Category

Search for the category of an explained transaction. Begin typing a search term, for example 'travel' and you will be shown a drop-down list of matching available categories to help you choose from. Select one of these or continue to complete the category name and then select 'Search' to see the list of results.

Amount

If you know the exact amount of a transaction then you can search for that value. Enter the numeric value into the search bar and select ‘Search’. To narrow down the search further, you can add the currency symbol before the value, for example '£10.00'. It will work without the symbol as well though so don’t worry.
