Log in to your FreeAgent account on a new device when new login check is enabled

This article explains how to log in to your FreeAgent account on a new device when new login check is enabled. It also explains how to generate a one-time login code if you're the account owner and one of the users on your account is locked out.

You currently need to activate email login checks on your account as they aren’t activated by default. But in the coming months, it will be turned on by default as a crucial part of protecting your data from unauthorised access, fraud and abuse.

If you're the FreeAgent account owner or have full (level 8) access, you can choose whether new login check is optional or active for all users in the account.

Another optional security feature we would strongly recommend is two-factor authentication (2FA). This keeps your FreeAgent account secure if your log in credentials ever fall into the wrong hands. Enabling it can help prevent your account from unauthorised access, fraud and abuse.

Entering a verification code when logging in to FreeAgent

When new login check is enabled, if you log in using a device that FreeAgent doesn’t recognise or after clearing cookies, you’ll be prompted to check your email and enter the verification code.

If you didn’t receive the code or it has expired, select ‘request a new code’ to have another code sent to the listed email address.

If you don’t have access to the listed email address, select ‘Try another way’ to be presented with other authentication methods.

Enter a verification code from your recovery email

If you set up a recovery email, select ‘Recovery email address’ to receive a verification code to the recovery email address.

You'll need to contact the account owner to grant you a one-time recovery code.

If you’re the account owner, please contact our support team by selecting the blue Help button at the bottom of the screen and they'll take you through an identity verification procedure to reinstate your access to your account.

Once you’ve used the code to log in, you should ensure that your primary and recovery email addresses are always kept up to date.

Generating a one-time login code

If you're the account owner and one of the users on the account is locked out and unable to log in using a code from their recovery email, you can generate a one-time code for them to log in with.

Select 'Settings' from the drop-down menu in the top-right corner and then select 'Users'.

'Users' highlighted under My Company section.

Select the name of the user that is unable to log in.
