Choose new login check preferences for your account
This article explains how FreeAgent users with full access can choose whether the new login check feature is optional or active for all users in the account.
New login check will be turned on by default in the coming months as a crucial part of protecting your data from unauthorised access, fraud and abuse.
If you’re the FreeAgent account owner or have full (level 8) access, you can choose whether new login check is optional or active for all users in the account.
If you aren’t already using our two-factor authentication (2FA) for your account, email login checks will provide an easy way for you to prevent unauthorised logins and meet modern security and GDPR standards. You can also add a recovery email address to recover your account if you ever lose access to your main email address.
When enabled, if you log in from a new device, or after clearing cookies, you'll be sent a verification code to your email address that you'll need to enter to verify your account. Read more on how the new login check will work once enabled.
Please note:
- The preference will be applied to all users within the account.
- If optional is chosen, users will be able to disable new login check once it’s turned on by default. If active is chosen, users won't be able to disable new login check.
If no preference is chosen, we will set your Account Security Preference to optional when new login check is turned on by default.
Choose new login check preferences
Select 'Settings' from the drop-down menu under your business name.
Select ‘Account Security Preference’ under the ‘Account Security’ section.
Choose the relevant option from the ‘Select a preference’ drop-down menu. You can choose between:
- ‘Optional for all users’ - to allow each individual user to decide whether to enable new login check or not. Once new login check is turned on by default, users will be able to disable it.
- ‘Active for all users’ - to make new login check required for all users. Once new login check is turned on by default, users will not be able to disable it.
Please note that if no preference is chosen, new login check will be turned on by default for all users when we roll it out but users will be able to disable it.
Select ‘Apply change’ to complete the process.
