Reasons you can’t see your FreeAgent tax calculation

This article explains why your FreeAgent tax liability may be unavailable in one of our supported banking apps, such as Mettle or NatWest.

If your FreeAgent account is connected with one of our supported banking apps, you may see a message in the banking app that your tax calculation is unavailable. This could be due to one or more of the following reasons:

Please note that we are unable to provide detailed support on specific functions in third-party banking apps as they are developed and supported outside of FreeAgent.

Tax is not applicable for your account type

If you have a universal or non-UK FreeAgent account type, you won’t see a tax calculation in the third-party app.

This is because these accounts don’t require some of the complex functionality that other business types require, such as Self Assessment, Corporation Tax or Final Accounts. Therefore, there won’t be a tax calculation in FreeAgent to be shown in the third-party app.

Your FreeAgent start date is in the future

If you choose a date in the future as your FreeAgent Start Date when setting up your FreeAgent account, you won’t see a tax calculation in the third-party app until after that date, once your tax liability has been calculated in FreeAgent.

Once this date has passed, your tax calculations and timeline should be visible for connected accounts in the third-party app.

You don't have the required access level

You need to have level 7 access or above to your FreeAgent account in order to see your tax liability. Therefore, if you have level 6 or below access to FreeAgent, you won’t see a tax calculation in the third-party app.

If you’d like to see your tax calculation in the third-party app, you’ll need to ask the FreeAgent account owner, or your accountant if you work with a FreeAgent partner, to increase your access level.

Problems with the connection

If there is a problem with the connection between FreeAgent and the banking app, you may see a message in the third-party app that something has gone wrong or they were unable to load your tax calculation.

You can check to see if there are any issues with the banking apps or FreeAgent.
