Set up a Mettle account

This article explains how to set up a new Mettle-funded FreeAgent account.

You can either set up your account via the Mettle app or FreeAgent website.

If you’re not setting up a Mettle-funded account, find out how to set up your FreeAgent account.

Please note:

  • To set up a Mettle-funded account, don’t sign up to FreeAgent using the FreeAgent mobile app as this won’t create a subsidised account.

     
  • To set up a Mettle-funded unincorporated landlord account type, you’ll need to set up the account via the FreeAgent website as the unincorporated landlord account type is not available via the Mettle app.

     
  • To be eligible for a free FreeAgent account you need to make at least one transaction a month from your Mettle account.

     

Setting up your account via Mettle

First, download the Mettle mobile app from either the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.

Next, go through the Mettle account application process. It should only take a few minutes to apply.

Then, pick the FreeAgent Connections option from within the Mettle app and select 'Get FreeAgent for free'. Find out more about FreeAgent and Mettle.

Setting up your account via FreeAgent

First, download the Mettle mobile app from either the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.

Next, sign up for a FreeAgent account on the FreeAgent website.

When setting up your FreeAgent account, select the relevant business type for your FreeAgent account  from the ‘Business Type’ drop-down menu and enter your Mettle account number and sort code. The category you choose won’t affect your FreeAgent experience so if there isn’t a category that matches your business, please choose the category closest to your business.

If your business is a charity, not-for-profit organisation, social enterprise, or community interest company (CIC), find out how to choose the appropriate business type.

Once you’ve set up your account, you’ll need to enable the bank feed connection against your Mettle account.

After 24 hours of the feed being enabled, you’ll be able to complete the switching process by navigating to the Radar area of your FreeAgent account (the bell icon at the top) and selecting ‘View Radar page’. You’ll see a notification listed confirming your eligibility for the free subscription offer. Select the 'Switch to a free subscription' link to complete the switch.
