How to use FreeAgent’s Radar feature

This article explains how to use the Radar area of your FreeAgent account and manage your Radar notifications.

Radar is a FreeAgent feature that helps you stay on top of your business admin and provides tailored insights into your business’s performance.

Please note that Radar is only available to users with an access level of 7 or 8.

How to find the Radar area

To navigate to the Radar area, first select the bell-shaped icon beside your company name in the top-right of the screen.

Then select the ‘View Radar’ link at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Radar’s key features

The Radar area contains your Admin To-Do List and your Radar feed.

Admin To-Do List

At the top of the Radar area is your Admin To-Do List. This is a checklist that highlights outstanding admin tasks, such as explaining bank transactions and reconnecting your Open Banking bank feed.

Radar feed

Below your Admin To-Do List is your Radar feed, which displays product update notifications and Insights that are tailored to your business.

Insights are notifications that highlight certain areas of interest from your business’s performance. Find out more about Insights in FreeAgent.

Updates to FreeAgent

When any new features or updates to FreeAgent are released, you will receive a ‘Product Update’ notification in your Radar feed.

Viewing your Radar notifications

You can access your Radar notifications by selecting the bell icon beside your company name in the top-right of the screen.

When there is a new task on your Admin To-Do List, a product update or an Insight for you to view, the bell icon will be animated and a yellow dot will appear.

Select the bell icon to open the Radar drop-down menu. 

New tasks will be shown under the ‘Admin To-Do’ tab. The number of new items will be shown in brackets beside the ‘Admin To-Do’ tab header. Any new or updated items on your list will have a thin yellow sidebar on the left-hand side.

To resolve a task, select it from the menu. You will then be taken to the relevant area of FreeAgent to complete the task.

New Insights and product updates will be shown under the ‘Radar’ tab within the drop-down menu. The number of unread Insights and updates will be shown in brackets beside the ‘Radar’ tab header. To read more about an Insight or update, select it from the menu and you will be taken to the Radar area.

Please note that once you have read a Radar notification, it will no longer appear in the Radar drop-down menu.

If you use FreeAgent with a CoPilot accountant, you will see a third tab in the drop-down menu that shows your new CoPilot messages. The number of unread CoPilot messages will be shown in brackets beside the ‘CoPilot’ tab header. To read a message, select it from the menu and you will be taken to the CoPilot area of FreeAgent.

Radar push notifications

Radar can send push notifications to your mobile device to notify you when you have a new task on your Admin To-Do List.

To receive these notifications, you will have to ensure that notifications are turned on in both the desktop version of FreeAgent and the FreeAgent mobile app.

Turning push notifications on and off in the desktop version of FreeAgent

Select your company name at the top-right of the screen and select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu. Select ‘Communication Preferences’ from the ‘My Company’ area.

In the ‘FreeAgent mobile app’ area, check the box beside ‘New Admin To-Do List item push notifications’ and select ‘Save Changes’ to turn notifications on.

To turn off push notifications, uncheck this box and then select ‘Save Changes’.

Tap the three-lined 'hamburger' icon at the top-left of the screen to open your 'Settings' menu and select ‘Push notifications’.

Select ‘Enable push notifications’.

Select ‘Notifications’ from the ‘Settings’ menu.

Tap ‘Allow Notifications’ to turn push notifications on or off. When the switch to the right of ‘Allow Notifications’ is green, notifications are turned on.

Tap the three-lined 'hamburger' icon at the top-left of the screen to open your 'Settings' menu and select ‘Push notifications’.

Select ‘Notification settings’.

Tap ‘Show Notifications’ to turn push notifications on or off. When the switch to the right of ‘Show Notifications’ is blue, notifications are turned on.

Please note that if you are using the FreeAgent mobile app on multiple devices, turning push notifications on or off within the FreeAgent mobile app will turn them on or off for that device only.
