How CoPilot works
This article explains how CoPilot can make your accounting and bookkeeping easier by pairing up with one of FreeAgent’s partner accountants.
CoPilot is an innovative way of working with an accountant through FreeAgent to help simplify your business accounting and give you peace of mind. For an agreed monthly fee, you can choose an expert FreeAgent partner accountant who suits your business needs and then work with them directly within your FreeAgent account.
Benefits of using CoPilot
Our specialist CoPilot accountants are matched to your business size and sector, and know FreeAgent inside and out. This can help you quickly choose the right partner for you and your business.
Your accountant can prepare and check your tax returns and file them to HMRC on your behalf. They can also help with your financial admin by categorising expenses, matching income to invoices and producing management accounts. If you have employees, your accountant can generate their payslips, send Real Time Information (RTI) to HMRC and prepare other payroll forms like P60s or P45s. Plus, they’re experts who can help you comply with Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax and VAT.
The whole process from the initial enquiry to managing your service package and signing up to CoPilot, can all be done inside your FreeAgent account.
How CoPilot works
1. Find a CoPilot accountant
Take a look through our CoPilot accountant partners to quickly find the right fit for your business needs. We’ll show you matches specific to your company and business type, and prioritise accountants with strong experience in your sector.
2. Send an enquiry
You can send enquiries to different accountants to get to know them, view their typical prices and packages and find your ideal fit. FreeAgent can speed up this process by sharing high-level information with your prospective accountant to help kick off your conversation.
3. Review the proposal and sign up to CoPilot
Once you’ve found an accountant you’re happy with, you can work with them to agree which services will make up the final unique package for your business. When you’re ready, you can accept their proposal and sign up to CoPilot.
4. Enjoy peace of mind working with a CoPilot accountant
Your accountant will then complete the services agreed upon in your CoPilot package proposal. If you need to, you can edit your CoPilot subscription, for example if your business circumstances change or you want to cancel your CoPilot subscription.

- You can explore CoPilot accountants to work with without any obligation. Your FreeAgent subscription amount will not be altered in any way unless you explicitly confirm the purchase of a CoPilot subscription.
- The price of CoPilot will be dependent on the services agreed with the CoPilot accountant.
- CoPilot is currently only available for a subset of eligible businesses. If you’re interested in the service but you don’t see a CoPilot option in your account, please contact our support team by selecting the blue ‘Help’ button at the bottom of the screen.
- Only the listed account owner can access and view information related to the CoPilot service.
