Add time to an invoice line item

This article explains how FreeAgent displays time on an invoice when adding a line item as a number of hours. It also explains how to display time as a fraction on the invoice.

When adding a line item to an invoice, if you select ‘Hours’ as the quantity, FreeAgent will treat the number entered differently depending on whether you use a decimal point or a colon.

Please note that FreeAgent will always convert time entered as a fraction into hours and minutes if you select ‘Hours’ as the quantity.

Adding time using a decimal point

If you enter the hours for the invoice line item using a decimal point, e.g. 1.5, this will be interpreted as an hour and a half and will show on the invoice as one hour and 30 minutes.

Adding time using a colon

If you enter the hours for the invoice line item using a colon, e.g. 1:50, this will be interpreted as hours and minutes and will show on the invoice as one hour and 50 minutes.

Example of an hour and fifty minutes showing on the line item

Displaying time as a fraction

Alternatively, if you would like the time to be displayed as a fraction for the invoice line item, e.g. 1.5 hours, select ‘-no unit-’ from the ‘Quantity’ drop-down menu when adding the line item. Any additional relevant information can be entered in the ‘Details’ box if necessary.
