Enable a Mettle bank feed

This article explains how to set up a bank feed for a Mettle account.

In partnership with FreeAgent, Mettle has developed an API integration to allow Mettle bank transactions to be automatically imported into a FreeAgent bank account. You can either enable the bank within FreeAgent or the Mettle app.

Please note that:

  • If you have any issues completing the set up, or find it’s not pulling in transactions once enabled, please contact Mettle directly as they will be able to investigate this further for you.

  • Only the FreeAgent account owner can enable a Mettle bank feed.

  • Mettle bank feeds need to be set up by logging into your FreeAgent account on a desktop device rather than the FreeAgent Mobile App.

  • You'll need to scan a QR code as part of the process. Please scan the QR code using the iOS or Android device that you use to access the Mettle app.

Before you start

There are a few tasks you need to complete in FreeAgent before you can enable a Mettle bank feed.

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to create a bank account in FreeAgent for your Mettle account.

You’ll also need to verify your email address with FreeAgent.

1. Go to your Mettle bank account in FreeAgent

Navigate to the ‘Banking’ tab at the top of the screen and select ‘Bank Accounts’ from the drop-down menu.

5. Scan the QR code with your iOS or Android device

The next screen will display a QR code. To scan the QR code, open the camera on the iOS or Android device that you use to access the Mettle app and scan the code. Hold your device so that the QR code is clearly visible on the screen. Then tap on the notification to open the Mettle app and follow the instructions provided to approve access.

If the camera on your device isn’t able to scan the code, please download a secure QR code reader app. Then, open the QR code reader app and hold your device so that the QR code appears clearly on the screen. Your device should scan the QR code and cause a notification to appear on the screen. Tap on the notification to open the Mettle app and follow the instructions provided to approve access.

If you're still unable to scan the QR code, select ‘Visit this link to connect’.

Once your transactions are cleared by Mettle, they will be imported to FreeAgent via the bank feed. Some transactions may appear instantly, but pending transactions can take up to three days to be imported.

You’ll need to give consent every 90 days to allow your bank transactions to automatically import into FreeAgent. Find out how to update a Mettle bank feed.
